Our Character Curriculum
Understanding ourselves, others and the world around us.
At Changing Lives, we make character education explicit and visible.
Our Character Curriculum has been designed to create the future foundations our students need to succeed, engaging students in learning, opportunities and challenges which develop their self-awareness, self-confidence and understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Our explicit character development sessions are underpinned by our school values, each making explicit the attitudes, behaviours and understanding of active citizens.
For each area, the character benchmarks are linked to the following statements:
The Six Character Badges
Each badge carries its own set of challenges. Together they describe the attitudes and habits we want every student to leave us with.
I try new things and prepare to succeed
This badge and set of challenges focuses on engaging in the opportunities that Changing Lives has to offer.
It is about taking part and making the most out of education.
Students complete challenges relating to trying new things, taking part and developing habits which help them become successful and independent learners.
I am an upstander and make a difference to my community
This badge links to being an upstander, helping others and being a community citizen.
It’s about working together with others and promoting belonging.
Students complete challenges relating to citizenship, anti-bullying, being an upstander and supporting others.
I am aware of my actions and understand how they can affect others
This badge is all about understanding our actions and choices.
It’s about our self-respect and taking accountability.
Students complete challenges which guide them to reflect on their attitude to learning, attendance and behaviour.
I demonstrate resilience and learn from my experiences
This badge links to reflecting, setting targets and responding to situations.
It’s about working hard to achieve your goals.
Students complete challenges relating to independent study, their assessments and acting on feedback.
I overcome problems and keep trying when things are tough
This badge is all about perseverance and how we cope with challenges and setbacks.
It’s about keeping going and overcoming problems.
Students complete challenges which link to perseverance, attendance and working hard towards their termly assessments.
I want the best and take pride in what I do
This badge is all about our aspirations and motivation – working hard, getting involved and taking pride in what you do. It links to attendance, punctuality and attitude to learning.
It’s about being present, being recognised and working hard in all aspects of our curriculum.
Students complete challenges linked to form time, subject lessons, independent study, our community days, attendance and attitude to learning.
