Form Time
Understanding ourselves, others and the world around us.
The Changing Lives form time programme is designed to promote belonging and build a positive group and school culture, supporting our students’ development in an age-relevant and age-appropriate way, linked to our values of kindness, respect and resilience. The form time personal development programme is aligned to our Changing Lives lessons.
Each day has a pre-planned specific focus.
Our Form Time Sessions
Each session type has its own purpose, and together they run across the week.
Look Back, Leap Ahead
Look Back, Leap Ahead provides students with an opportunity to reflect on the previous week through structured and predictable oracy activities, which develops students’ ability to engage in peer-to-peer discussion and ability to reflect, with a focus on supporting students’ wellbeing. In order to develop students’ sense of self-belief and determination to improve, these sessions include rewards and recognition, where students reflect on their achievements in the previous week, including their attendance and reward points.
SMSC Sessions
SMSC sessions provide opportunities for collective reflection and learning linked to our personal development calendar.
Speak Up
Speak Up has been developed to provide students with an opportunity to explore current affairs and the news through oracy. Speak Up sessions aim to empower students to develop a voice, consider other viewpoints and develop the ability to question and critique facts presented and spot misinformation. Each Speak Up session opens with an activity which prompts students to reflect on what they’ve seen, heard or have been told about current events, providing an opportunity for structured discussion that can address and challenge misconceptions and fake news.
Read, Reflect, Relate
Read, Reflect, Relate promotes reading for pleasure, which as reported by The Literacy Trust, is at an all-time low for teenagers. Read, Reflect, Relate texts have been chosen to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of empathy, as a key learnable skill. Sessions are designed to promote shared reflection and discussion with form tutors on key personal development topics. In addition, Read, Reflect, Relate provides us with the opportunity to model reading fluency and share reciprocal reading strategies with students, to promote future success with reading.
